• Our shipping label. Arrange shipping and we email you a discounted label. Its cost comes off your payment.

• We pick it up. Have 50 lb or more within a 2 hour drive of Mississauga? Type your address to see the pickup fee, which comes off your payment. Then send us photos of what you have with your request and choose a pickup time.

Each box can weigh up to 150 lb; keeping each one under 50 lb avoids an extra courier handling fee. Insurance in transit is your choice, but carriers limit coverage on sterling and gold, so those travel tracked rather than insured.

We collect 50 lb or more within about a 2 hour drive of Mississauga, the same minimum wherever you are. Less than that ships easily with our discounted label. A posted parcel is paid by Interac e-Transfer, with an itemized receipt emailed to you. If you bring your silver in, you can be paid in cash in person instead. If you used our shipping label, its cost comes off your payment and shows on your receipt.

Whatever the size of your payment, the only things taken off it are the shipping label or pickup cost you chose, and both show on your receipt. Drop-offs have no fees.

If your business is registered for GST/HST, give us your GST/HST number and we add HST on top of what we pay.

We never pay by cheque, PayPal, cards or crypto.

Anything magnetic is steel and, unless it is gold plated, has no value, and neither do aluminium, stainless steel or zinc (pot metal), but if they are already in the box we recycle them for you at no charge. Check each piece for a Sterling or 925 mark first. It may be sterling silver and worth more than silver plate, so have it checked before selling it as plate. Collectible patterns or pieces by a known maker may do better with an antique dealer or at auction. A scrap yard usually pays for the base metal; a buyer with posted silver plate prices lets you compare before selling.

No. Please do not polish silverplate: polish takes a little of the silver off with the tarnish, and it makes no difference to what you are paid. You do not need to sort by metal either. Put it all in one box and we sort it on camera.

Yes. Tell us and we return your items by tracked courier at your shipping cost, and we tell you that exact cost in writing before anything ships back. Every purchase is held intact for 30 clear days, so there is time to change your mind after your receipt arrives. If you have already been paid for an item you want back, that payment comes back to us before it ships.

They are held intact for 30 clear days, the period the City of Mississauga sets for second-hand goods, and logged in a purchase register. After that they are melted or shredded for recycling and the metal is reused.

We pay metal value only, so if you think a piece is worth more whole, such as a signed piece or a complete set, keep it or sell it elsewhere before you send it.

Yes. As part of our anti-money-laundering (FINTRAC) compliance program, we ask every seller for photo ID. After you request your label, just email a photo of the front of your driver's licence or other government-issued photo ID to contact@silverplatecanada.ca, with your order number in the subject line. Bringing your items in? Bring the ID with you. We need it before we can send your payment.
