What to tell us about your lot

A rough description is enough to start. You do not need to identify every piece before contacting us. Include:

1. The material: forks and spoons, knives, trays, tea sets, hotel plate, or a mixed estate lot. Add photographs of the whole lot and a few clear close-ups of the marks.
2. The approximate weight and packing: tell us the total in pounds or kilograms, how many boxes you have, and whether anything is too large or heavy for a box. Say if the weight is an estimate.
3. Your location and preferred transport: your Ontario town or postal code, and whether you want to ship, request a pickup or bring the lot to Mississauga.
4. One lot or recurring supply: mention separate client or estate lots and any settlement-reporting needs so these can be discussed before collection or shipping.

How the trade program works

• Trade volumes welcome. The chest that comes into your shop with an estate lot, the plate bin behind the auction house, or accepted non-ferrous material from your yard can be assessed together. Check the accepted categories before arranging transport.
• Consolidated settlements. Ship as often as you like; settle per lot or on a consolidated schedule that suits your bookkeeping.
• Itemized settlement reports per lot. Every category, weight, rate and dollar, per lot, processed on the same cameras as every other parcel. Clean paper for your own clients and your accountant.
• Too big to box? We arrange it. Anything that packs into boxes of up to 150 lb (68 kg) ships on our discounted labels or your own carrier. Past that, email contact@silverplatecanada.ca and we set up a pickup or freight, or you can deliver it yourself; parcels shipped on your own account go to Silver Plate Canada, 2687 Slough St, Mississauga, ON L4T 1G2.
• A dedicated contact. Trade enquiries skip the general queue: email contact@silverplatecanada.ca with "trade program" in the subject line.

Prepare a mixed silverplate lot

• Keep known categories identifiable. Flatware, holloware and plated knives have different published buying rates. Separating them helps you estimate the lot; mixed or unsorted lots are still welcome.
• Check for solid silver before estimating everything as plate. Put pieces marked Sterling, 925 or other possible silver fineness marks aside within the lot and mention them. Our sterling and silverplate guide explains the distinction, and uncertain marks can be checked from photographs.
• Keep each client's lot clearly labelled. If you need separate records for several estates or suppliers, discuss that with us before combining the contents.
• Set aside collectible or sentimental pieces. We buy metal value. Have pieces that may be worth more as antiques assessed for that purpose before committing them to recycling.
• Pack for the weight. Protect sharp edges and stop pieces moving inside sturdy boxes. Contact us before sending anything that exceeds parcel limits or needs freight.

Check both the material value and the costs of getting it to us. Our prices page lists the material rates, and the pickup page shows the collection fee for your address (pickups start at 50 lb, with photos of the lot). Confirm the transport arrangement and any agreed trade terms before the lot leaves you.

What we take from trade sellers

Everything on the what we buy pages, at volume: silverplate flatware and holloware, plate knives, sterling, pewter, brass and bronze, copper-nickel. Gold is paid at the live published rates, same as retail. Mixed and unsorted lots are fine; sorting on camera is the service.

Compliance, stated plainly

We operate a full anti-money-laundering compliance program as a dealer in precious metals under Canada's PCMLTFA, we keep a purchase register, and every seller, trade accounts included, provides photo ID. If your operation needs paper for its own regulator, ours will hold up.
