How your parcel is protected

This page exists because most buyers in this industry hide the details that matter: what happens between your mailbox and the scale, and how you check the math afterwards. Here is all of it, in plain words.

Shipping: your carrier, your choice, tracked

You pack and ship your box with the carrier you prefer. Sending 20 lb or more, or sterling or gold? Ask us for a discounted shipping label: our commercial rate is well below counter prices, and the label cost is simply deducted from your payment. Our labels are tracked door to door; if you use your own carrier, choose a tracked service, address the parcel to Silver Plate Canada, 2687 Slough St, Mississauga, ON L4T 1G2, and keep the receipt slip with the tracking number.

Add declared-value coverage if you wish; that choice is yours. One honest limit, set by the carriers rather than by us: that coverage is limited or unavailable on jewellery, and on anything more than half precious metal by weight, so sterling silver, gold, bullion and silver coins travel tracked rather than insured. Silverplate is only a few percent silver and is not affected, which is one of the quiet advantages of the category. What is not left to chance is what happens on arrival: every parcel is opened and documented on continuous video the moment it arrives.

Chain of custody, from arrival to scale

  1. Continuous video at opening. Recording starts on the sealed exterior of your parcel with the waybill visible, and continues through the opening, the sorting by material, and the weighing and testing of every piece. The recording is retained for at least 2 years.
  2. Sorted and weighed by category, on camera. Plate, plate knives, sterling, pewter, brass, copper-nickel, and anything quote-only (silver coins, gold, dental, bullion), each weighed in frame.
  3. Itemized receipt. Every category is listed with its weight, rate and dollar amount, emailed with your payment within 4 business days of arrival.
  4. Quote-only categories held for approval. Silver coins, gold, dental gold and bullion are set aside and quoted in writing. Nothing in those categories is processed until you approve the quote, and a clearly rare coin date is priced individually in the quote instead of being melted.

The camera policy, in plain words

Every parcel, every time, no exceptions. The video protects you from the industry's classic tricks (lost items, quiet substitutions, mystery weights) and it protects us from false claims. Honest buyers and honest sellers both do better on camera.

Changing your mind

If you change your mind, we return your items by tracked courier at your shipping cost, and we tell you that exact cost in writing before anything ships back. Every purchase is held intact, not melted, for 30 clear days, so there is a real window for it. What the window cannot do is refund your postage, which is why the honest work still happens up front: our rates are published before you ship, and if you call, or email photos to contact@silverplatecanada.ca first, we will tell you plainly what to send and what to keep.

Your information

We collect only what the label and the payment require, we never sell or share it, and payments are e-Transfer or cheque only, so no card numbers ever touch us. The full plain-language policy is on the privacy page.

Published policy versions

Our shipping, processing and payment terms are version-dated so nobody can move the goalposts after you mail. The current set is v2.0, July 2026, published in full on the terms page. If terms ever change, the version number changes, and parcels already in flight are honoured under the version they shipped under.
