How we process your items

This page is the machine-room tour. Every parcel goes through the same ten steps, in the same order, on the same cameras. If you only want the seller's view, the short version is on how it works.

  1. Arrival is photographed and on video. Your sealed parcel is photographed as received, waybill visible, before anything is touched.
  2. The box is weighed sealed. The gross arrival weight goes on the record before opening.
  3. Opened on continuous camera. Recording runs without cuts from sealed box through the whole bench process. The recording is retained for at least 2 years.
  4. Sorted by material category. Silverplate flatware, silverplate holloware, plate knives, sterling, pewter, brass and bronze, copper-nickel, and anything quote-only (silver coins, gold, dental, bullion), each into its own tray.
  5. The magnet pass. Anything a magnet grabs firmly is iron or steel and carries no value; it is set aside and noted.
  6. The hallmark check. Every piece's marks are read. Plate marked as plate, sterling caught even when it was hiding in the plate chest. This step is where sellers get their happy surprises.
  7. Sterling and gold are separated for XRF. The analyzer reads the actual metal content in seconds without damaging anything, on camera.
  8. Each category is weighed in frame. Category weights are what your payment is computed from, at the prices published on what we pay.
  9. The itemized receipt is generated. Every category, every weight, every rate, every dollar, including the label deduction if you used our discounted label. Silver coins, gold, dental and bullion appear as a written quote instead, and nothing in those categories is processed until you approve it; a clearly rare coin date is priced individually in the quote.
  10. Payment goes out within 4 business days of arrival. Interac e-Transfer or cheque, your choice on the form.

Why so much ceremony? Because you cannot watch us work, the cameras and the receipt do it for you. The video answers "what happened to my ladle" with footage, and the receipt answers "how was I paid" with arithmetic you can check against the published rates.
