Silver Plate Canada is a mail-in buying service for silverplate, sterling and estate metals, run from a working metals recycling facility in Mississauga, Ontario. We are new as a brand, and we are fine saying so. Trust here should be earned with published rates and itemized receipts, not bought with slogans.

A letter from the owner

We have spent decades recovering metal: sorting it, testing it, and moving it into the legitimate refining stream. XRF analyzers, calibrated scales, camera protocols and settlement paperwork are our normal working day.

We started Silver Plate Canada because we kept seeing two things. First, families are told their silverplate chest is worth nothing, when the truth is that nobody near them will take it. Second, the published mail-in rates for silver in Canada, where they exist at all, sit far below what the metal is honestly worth. Both problems have the same fix: publish real rates, process every parcel on camera, and put every dollar on an itemized receipt.

That is the whole idea. Our silverplate prices are on the site in plain flat dollars, by the pound, starting at $10.00 per pound for flatware. Sterling, coins and gold are quoted to you in writing, and nothing in those categories is processed until you accept. Every parcel is opened on video. Every payment comes with an itemized receipt. And every price we publish is one we honour on every parcel.

If our published rate is ever not the best written rate you can get from a Canadian online buyer, tell us. We will beat it or tell you to take theirs.

The facility

Silver Plate Canada parcels are received and processed at our metals recycling facility in Mississauga, Ontario. The same room handles commercial metal streams every week: calibrated scales, professional XRF analysis, segregated storage, and continuous video coverage from parcel opening to weighing. Your flatware chest is handled with the same discipline as a commercial refining lot, because it goes through the same hands and the same cameras.

Doing it properly

  • A full purchase register. Every purchase is recorded: item descriptions, photos, weights, prices, dates, and where it was received.
  • A hold before melting. Purchased items are held, not melted, for a waiting period after purchase. Sterling silver, gold, dental gold, bullion and silver coins are quoted in writing and never processed before you approve the quote.
  • Anti-money-laundering compliance. Silver Plate Canada operates a full anti-money-laundering compliance program as a dealer in precious metals under Canada's PCMLTFA, including identity verification on larger transactions.
  • Traceable payments only. Interac e-Transfer or cheque. No cash, ever.

What we are not

  • We are not appraisers. We are a metal buyer paying published rates, and your receipt documents a purchase.
  • We are not a pawn shop. No loans, no cash, no counters.
  • We are not a "cash for gold" postcard operation. That model died publicly of its own payout practices, and its habits are the opposite of everything on this page.
