We buy this by individual quote. No published grid: call or note it on your label request. We contact you with a written quote before processing, and nothing in this category is processed until you approve. Decline the quote and those items come back by tracked courier at your shipping cost, quoted in writing before they ship.

Sell Canadian silver coins, quoted in writing first

Jars of old dimes and quarters, rolls from a parent's dresser, the coffee tin from the cottage. Your coins are identified and weighed on camera, then quoted in writing, and nothing is processed until you approve. A quote naturally prices rare dates: nothing is melted blind.

How the coin quote works

  1. Your coins arrive and are opened on camera, identified by era and weighed.
  2. We email you a written quote, itemized by era and weight. Rare dates are priced individually in the quote instead of being valued as metal.
  3. Nothing is processed until you approve. Approve and payment goes out by e-Transfer or cheque. Decline and your coins come back by tracked courier at your shipping cost, told to you in writing before they ship.

Weigh your jar before you ship

Standard gross weights: dime 2.33 g, quarter 5.83 g, half dollar 11.66 g, silver dollar 23.33 g. Weigh your 1920 to 1966 coins and note the total on your label request; it helps us size your label and speeds up your written quote. Pre-1920 sterling coins are quoted at their higher purity.

Which Canadian coins contain silver?

Canadian circulating coin silver content
EraSilver contentNotes
Before 192092.5% (sterling)Victorian, Edward VII and early George V coinage. Higher silver, and many dates carry collector value: check the dates before shipping, or email photos to contact@silverplatecanada.ca first.
1920 to 196780%The classic Canadian junk-silver era: dimes, quarters, halves and dollars. The bulk of most jars sits here.
1967 to 196880% or 50%Some 1967 and 1968 dimes and quarters were struck in 50% silver as the mint phased silver out. We test and pay each coin at its actual content.
1969 and laterNone in circulation coinsPure nickel, then plated steel. No silver value; leave these at home.

The collectible check: our promise on coins

Bulk lots are quoted at their silver value by weight; we do not catalogue ordinary coins one by one. A clearly rare date (a famous key date) is priced individually in your written quote instead of being valued as metal, so nothing is melted blind. Prefer certainty? Pull anything you think is special before you ship, or email photos to contact@silverplatecanada.ca and we will tell you which dates are worth keeping. And because coins are quoted first, nothing happens until you approve: decline the quote and the lot comes back by tracked courier at your shipping cost.

What about American or foreign silver coins?

Yes. US dimes, quarters and halves dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver, and many older world coins carry silver too. Send them in the same box; every coin is identified, tested where needed, and itemized at its actual silver content in your written quote.

A note on bullion coins: Silver Maple Leafs and other recognized bullion belong on the bullion page, where they are quoted individually in writing and never processed until you approve the quote. Do not sell bullion at junk-silver rates, to us or anyone else.
